3RD GRADE

WELCOME TO THIRD GRADE WHERE WE FOLLOW THE NC STANDARDS

In science, we investigate:

  • forces and motion
  • matter
  • earth systems
  • ecosystems

Each student is required to participate in the annual science fair.

In math, we concentrate on the following areas:

  • multiplication and division
  • arrays and area
  • developing an understanding of fractions
  • measurement and data
  • geometry and 2D shapes

Language arts focuses on developing our students’ reading, language and comprehension skills, as well as their oral and written communication skills.

In social studies, we concentrate on history, geography, financial literacy, local government and diverse cultures.


4TH GRADE

  • We teach the NC Standards
  • We assess quarterly using benchmark testing
  • We individualize our teaching based upon student needs
  • Each student is required to participate in the annual Science Fair
  • Students are prepared for and take EOG’s as required for all public schools

In Math the students work on whole number operations, fractions, geometry, measurement and data operations and algebraic thinking.

In language arts we develop our students’ language and comprehension skills, as well as their reading oral and written communication skills.

In science we focus on forces and motion, matter, energy, earth, ecosystems, and molecular biology.

Social studies goes into NC history and geography, civics and economics, and culture.


5TH GRADE

OUR FIFTH GRADERS ARE INSPIRED SO THEY CAN SOAR

In language arts we use the NC Standards to develop our students’ language and comprehension skills, as well as their reading, oral and written communication skills.

In math the students work on the following:

  • operations with fractions
  • extending division and volume
  • geometry
  • measurement and data
  • operations and algebraic thinking

Hands RaisedIn science our students participate in the science fair, study forces and motion, matter, energy, earth systems, ecosystems and genetics.

In social studies our students engage in studying US history and geography, economics and financial literacy, civics, and cultural diversity.


6TH GRADE

In 6th grade students will be transitioning from elementary to middle school learning. They will have a teacher for each subject and will be aided in the organizational skills to succeed in this transition.

ArtLanguage Arts
In the sixth grade, students demonstrate mastery of skills in reading, writing, listening, speaking and language. Students increase their reading capabilities and work with a variety of text types, including literary and informational texts. They focus on comprehension and will have opportunities for collaborative learning. Students will write and use informational resources and technology to develop their reading, writing, and speaking skills with their school issued Chromebooks. Students will be required to complete weekly assignments on web-based I-Station.

Math
Math 6 focuses on connecting ratio and rate to whole number multiplication and division as well as using concepts of ratio and rate to solve problems. Complete understanding of division of fractions will take place as well as learning rational numbers including negative numbers. Students will learn writing, interpreting, and using expressions and equations and develop understanding of statistical thinking. Students will be required to complete weekly web-based assignments on Dreambox.

Science
In 6th grade science, students learn the properties and processes of waves and wavelike energy, light and sound. They will learn in chemistry about matter, and energy transfer and interactions of matter and energy; Students will learn about the structure of the earth and the life cycle of plants. They will also learn different aspects of space and technology.

Humanities
In 6th grade, students delve into the understanding of our history and its people through the study of geography, politics, culture, and economic systems. Students will study the rise and decline of ancient civilizations. 6th grade humanities allows the opportunity for project based and collaborative learning.
